The second set of "Wide Loads" will download their cargo during the month of May. Quinn, again on the far right, was the first to go, on Saturday 5/6/2023. She had an even set, a big buckling and a smaller doeling.
I have started milking my first set of mammas now. Fresh milk for the Summer! The first thing I made with it was yogurt.
I also finally organized my milking equipment. Rather than laying it out to dry on the kitchen table, or take up space by the sink, I got a little cart to put it all on. Sweet!
In order to get milk, we had to start separating the goat kids from their mammas about 12 hours before when I want to milk them. This allows their udders to fill, and not be constantly sipped off by their babies. After about 2 weeks you can do this. It is called "milk sharing'. All these kids are closer to 4 weeks old. It was time.
We had to first remove my three bucks from the outside pen they have been in. They went to the Hanson farm for the Summer, far away from the girls. The outside pen is located inside the pasture fence. It also serves as the stepping stone to integrating new kids. In a few weeks I'll set them out with the whole herd.
